Abuja Photo Festival to Hold in October, Should plus-size models be included on the runway?

Here’s what happened this month in the CAFE Industries (CAFE stands for Culture, Art, Fashion, and Entertainment):

Culture:
In line with documenting culture through creative arts, Lateef Adedimeji is set to release a Yoruba epic film titled LISABI on Netflix. This 2-part film will premiere on September 27th, 2024, with the second part coming in January 2025. Nigerian filmmakers are making waves with other notable films like Amina, Jagun Jagun, Anikulapo, and House of Ga’a. Be sure to check them out!

Art:
The art scene has been vibrant this year, particularly in photography. Photography, often driven by commissions rather than original works, is gaining new attention with a focus on artistic expression. The Abuja Photo Festival will be held from October 21st to 26th in Abuja, dedicated to celebrating this art form. For more information, visit @abujaphotofest on Instagram.

Fashion:
GTCO Fashion Weekend’s model casting has sparked a lot of conversations, especially around a particular video that caught the attention of Lari’s CAFE. Should plus-size models be included on the runway, considering the effort other models put in to be selected? Should traditional modeling qualifications be re-evaluated? While representation is important, it’s crucial not to compromise standards. That said, I believe plus-size models are vital, as they represent a significant portion of the global population. Their clothes deserve as much visibility as any other body type. What are your thoughts?

Entertainment:
Tyla’s win for Best Afrobeat Artist at the 2024 MTV VMAs has stirred debate on what truly defines Afrobeats and the blurred lines between genres in African music. What do you think? Is Water really an Afrobeats song?
